Hello All,

We had a killer day in the field today. Ended up with three great silvers, the best of which was Shanegalang's find of a 1798 Two Reales. This takes us to 23 Spanish Silvers for 2013. I think we'll have a shot at 30 for the year, but my guess will 28, since they are not plowing a couple of key fields this year.

We started out on a field that we thought that they were plowing, and had a hunch there, and that's where I dug the seated dime, but we had to change locations due to the cane trucks and tractors. So to get there and dig a nice coin so quickly means that the field has some real potential for later.

The heat was only 95 instead of the usual 105 or so, but it got to us by the end of the hunt. At any rate, enjoy the photos and the video below.

Here's Shane's killer 1798 2 Reales. Any time a 2 Reales comes up is a day for celebration. He and I have both recovered a total of four 2 Reales since last January.

Here's my plow-dinged 1840-O Seated Dime. I was stoked to find this one, because now I have a complete set of seated coins dug in 2013: seated half dimes, a seated dime, a seated quarter, and a seated half dollar. :)

And here's my worn 1781 half real. Not a date we had dug this year so far. I also got some flat buttons, a mystery brass "leg," a barrel tap piece, musketballs, and a shoe buckle piece.

You kick ass, great finds.

We are tearing it up BB!! I was due for a find and a two reals definitely made up for the slump. It's obvious to me now that me and the F 75 just dont get along. Felt good to use my old Tesoro again. AND wear my lucky Tesoro shirt, thats what did it :) Seriously though, a great hunt and it will just keep getting better. We will get the 30 this year! The weather will continue to cool a little too. Amazing as always BB..I can't even imagine a day like that, let alone YEARS:notworthy:

Having said that..Your posts always leave me with conflicting feelings, they either make me want to throw my MD on the ground and stomp on it or grab it and race to my nearest spot:dontknow: Either way I love reading/watching every time!

Congrats again,

Chris

You guys are on one heck of a run!

Very nice job buckle, not many have great spots such as this

Chris,

Great to hear from you. Site selection, research, and good equipment and patience are the key. Don't stomp on that detector, get out there and dig. :) I always tell anyone who isnt happy with what they're digging to improve at one or several of those things. I used to not be to happy with what I dug, newer silver and a very occasional gold ring or something like that. Hunting for the colonial era stuff has more responsibility for identification, preservation, and knowledge about the finds, but that's what I live for now.

Cheers,

Buck

Wow! Another great hunt guys! It's great that you two are still pulling out old Seated & Spanish silver! Love the excitement you have for such historic finds. I enjoyed the video keep it up. Man I can't wait to see what comes out of those cane fields next! :icon_thumright:

Hello Bandit!

I am hoping for 30 this year. After the strikeout on Sunday I'm not certain, but we still have almost 4 months left, so anything can happen! BIG COINgratulations on that nice 2 Reales! That is one SWEET piece of BIG 1700s Silver!

Cheers,

Buck

Great to hear from you Dave!

Digging anything 200+ years old is such a rush, it's hard to contain the excitement. And who would want to? :)

We had a strike out day before yesterday, but I think I got a piece of a silver buckle of some sort, so not a total loss. Plus, we got a couple flat buttons to clean up which could be anything.

Best Wishes,

Buck
