Okay, this is just great. I had noticed a small community ball park near where I work. I hadn't hunted it because it is not that old and I had better sites to hunt. Two of those happened this past weekend and I got skunked, though my partner got a silver cross.

Anyway, I decided I would get over there for like 15 minutes just to scope out the quality of digs. Well, I started off and was completely amazed at how clean the area was. In my area, it's just hard to find anywhere that isn't completely full of trash. So, I started thinking maybe it had been hunted really hard. But, I decided to keep going and started finding coins and such.

The site has 2 ball diamonds and a field on the back side. I worked my way, zig zagging, to the furthest diamond. Again, some coins. Then I started heading back, being pleased that this site was actually yielding targets. Well, I hit a weird signal. It had a nice blunt sound to it. It's hard to describe. On the uMax, I like these targets as they tend to produce nice jewelry. Anyway, the left side was this weird oblong shape on the sounding. But the right side pinged up as a pull tab or ring. I've learned to dig these b/se they can yield interesting targets. Anyway, I dug and couldn't find it. Finally, I pulled the clunk of dirt from about 4-6 inches down and the Tesoro zinged out a tone. Again, I had low hopes, b/se that's the way I roll.

I singled it down to a small part of the clod. And at this point Im thinking pull tab or some odd piece of metal. All the silver or gold rings I've found in the past have shown thru nicely earlier than this one did. But boy, did my heart start pounding when I uncovered gold from that clod. Again, I'm thinking, "Calm down, this could be one of those gold pull tabs!" But no! I turned it around to uncover this awesome 14k class ring from, get this, 1923. I was just about to yell out, but remembered that I should downplay it with folks around.

What's incredible is that this area is not very old. It's a ring from Germantown High School. I just thought this was the coolest find. And to think that I seriously found this in 10 minutes. Unreal. It once again goes to show you, you never know what you will find! Get out there folks.

Nice GOLD :notworthy:

I see you got a Umax, don't you love the sound of gold that the Tesoro's makes......it is a sound I love to hear.
I call it a "warble" sound, kinda pops and thuds. Usually = nickel, gold or lesser lead, all good in my experience, love it!

Very nice find. You gotta love the gold.....Matt
