Re: Been called to serve my country..By going to jury duty...I'm only 20! Opinions?
So, you're only 20 eh? Oh my, what an unfair world we live in. I used to bring this up to my sons while they were growing up. At 17 I was in the Navy and patrolling the Tonkin Gulf on a aircraft carrier. I couldn't legally drink, vote OR serve on a jury. Because you may have a little test you think you should be excused? PLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLEASE! What about the guy that's trying to raise a family and only gets the couple bucks they give you for serving and you lose out on your paycheck. These folks aren't staying with Mommy and Daddy, they are trying to make their car payment, buy food for the rest of the family and make a house payment. Boy, I can just imagine what would happen if they were to be able to draft you and MAKE you serve your country when you think your personal life is so much more important than your civic duty. Before I turned 21 I had served 3 tours. Now, when you get to the courthouse, I want you to look up at the flag flying there and I want you to think about how many have died to give us the right of a trial by jury. Then I want you to take a deep breath, hold your head up and thank God you have been chosen to participate in our democratic way of life. I can tell by your attitude about this that jury duty will probably be your only contribution to maintaining our way of life so, make the best of it. ...........sorry, you asked
