Re: brass acorn

it looks like it might go on the end of a tape to measure logs. if you put it on the butt of a log and kept tension on it the spikes it would keep it in place as you moved the tape to the other end of the log. as soon as you get your length you release tension the spikes retract releasing it so it falls free. the round design would allow it to be reeled in without getting hung up on undergrowth. and the acorn = trees

Re: brass acorn

I really like that idea of putting 'SOLVED" at the end of every identified item. There appears also to be a green checkmark. Great idea that may have come about from the continued guessing of this already identified brass acorn.

It would be a lot of work to go back through all these posts. I guess its up to the original poster to decide when it has been solved.

I was curious as to why this has been green checked. I read every post and could not wait to find out what the heck this thing was. Seemed the incense burner idea was getting pretty warm but....was this solved?
old post. Look back to page 3.

Its a late 19th Century device designed to stop the owners watch being taken from his pocket. Small silver acorn shaped linked with three concealed prongs. When pulled the prongs extend to pierce the fingers of the would be thief. (or make it hard to pull from pocket)
