Hello All,

Been out for a few days from the forum here because I was back in Old Virginia hunting with my Dad. :)

Finds were slim, but we added to our wheat penny collection. :) Dad found a nice Native American artifact and I got what looks like a key for an old mantle clock. We hunted for several days smack dab in the middle of God's Country. I posted some photos of the cabin below (no running water or electricity) with oil lanterns on the table. Gives ya a new appreciation for life in the 1800s for sure!

One of the highlights was us taking a WILD ride on a narrow muddy road that his 4 x 4 almost couldn't handle (I mean, this was a Tractor-Only-Type-Road! :o). Then 45 minutes down this road and crossing a creek twice, skidding through a cow pasture up and down hills and places where the road had washed down a steep ravine on one side of the truck, and we came upon a tall oak tree fallen across the road (and nowhere to turn the truck around--and still a mile from the site we were going to hunt. ::) ).

So rather than walk a mile to the site (and afterwards have to put the truck in reverse for a mile to find a spot to turn around), I walked to another cabin that the owner had given us keys for in search of a chainsaw. And I found... a DULL Axe ::)

So I chopped away at that sucker for a long time and finally it gave way and we dragged it with the truck and heaved it over the ledge.

By the time we got to the site we were hunting that day, we were exhausted... But it was a Beautiful spot:

Other highlights included me playing music and singing back-up with a bunch of fellers on some Bluegrass and Old Time Music, eating the Best Food God ever put on the face of the earth, searching for an 1800s Mill in the woods with Dad and finding a mill stone in the creek :) and plenty of rest, relaxation, and good family time. Here are some more photos of the area we were...spilling over into the first reply.

Nice Pics!! I live in Loudoun county... it use to look a lot like that when I was a kid... not anymore!!!! Amazing how fast new houses can pop up in a pasture or old cornfield!!!! Some of the BEST Civil War campsite are now housing developments.. you get some great responses when you ask to dig there!!! "Hi!, would it be ok if I dug holes in the yard of your 4 Million dollar hose?" ;-) Ironically,I did do that.. went make to one of the best producing spots I ever had.. after I went from a 6000 to a spectrum to a DFX.. and did get permission to dig!! The guy was really cool! I had already dug a few hundred fired Gardners and 3-ringers there.. so I gave him a handfull of them.. he was like a kid at Christmas!!! His neighbor.. well.. more like the Grinch!!! I guess that is all the price of progress... ok.. off my soapbox...

Looks like a great spot you went to... heck.. I'd take that cabin you hunted in a heartbeat!!! ;-)

Wow BB, what a spectacular time you all had ! the photos rock ! especially the cabin site

with the old brick chimney - looks like the kind of place where you might find a cache of

seated liberty coins in an old crockery jar . Time spent with loved ones out in God's country,

and metal detecting to boot - can life get any better than that ? Argentium.

Buckleboy, what a GREAT story and the pictures made it all seem up close and personal. Thanks for
a great post. Glad your dad got to go with you. Sure wish my Dad was still around to enjoy this great
hobby.

That's why I didn't post my usual multitude of Finds Photos.  The Real treasure can't be photographed or placed in a display case.  :)

Beautiful pics! Thanks for sharing!! HH!!!!

tranquility! I'd be taking me some naps out there in the fields. Lovely country is enough and finds are just icing on the cake.
