The corn is planted and is over 8 feet tall, but we can still do some swinging between the rows. The field was plowed for the first time (ever) this summer and it pushed alot of relics and coins to the surface. I've never seen so much pottery and glass! Some decent finds showed up, including musketballs, jews harp, tombac and brass buttons, some wiped coppers, a gorgeous New Brunswick half penny, a Stiver and other various relics. My friend also dug a wiped copper, buttons and an 1811 Cornish penny conder token. The corn will be cut at the end of September, and we will head back for a recap

Now THAT is one heck of a cornfield. Wonder what went on there before the field ever seen corn. Great hunt, first of many there I'd bet.

There was a house there that was built in the late 1700s, and a barn in behind it. The house was burned almost 100 years ago.

Nice recoveries. Hopefully they will trim the corn stubble close to the ground. Some fields get cut pretty neat, and some are a real mess after harvesting.

I've never hunted a cut corn field, but based on what I see in videos of people doing so, it looks like a challenge. I'm sure there will be a lot of eyeball finds too, based on the astronomical amount of pottery, glass and clay pipe parts. I know there was a shoe buckle and other nice 1700s relics and coins found there before it was plowed and planted. I guess we will find out in 4 weeks when its cut down. The corn is for cow feed, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference as to how its harvested.

The hunt you'll grab way more is when they plow the stalks under because even when it's cut you'll likely still be doing similar to what you're doing now.

I'm not a fan or corn fields, but am of this one as it gave me my best hunt of 2017, and best I've had in a very long time - maybe ever. Gives me a little high just looking at it! :love10:

Soybean forever, one of my most favorite spots was a hayfield for years, when the farmer finally plowed it and planted corn I hit it before, during and after and came up with all kid of goodies. I'm looking forward to this fall because it got planted in soybean, plus after all these years it has a lot less iron from everyone and myself removing it.
Nice finds, those jews harps sound like a silver half, I've only found one intact like that. Congrats on a good site too.

Nice finds RM. Our fields will start to be harvested in another month or so. Early this year, as they were able to plant earlier. I like the corn fields, but am partial to bean fields for the obvious reasons.

Nice hunt! I found a half stiver here in North Carolina yesterday. The first I have seen in my area.

I can only hope they plow the stalks under, or at least cut them short. Everything has been on the surface or only a few inches deep, so if I have to raise the sensitivity and swing above the stalks, I should still be able to hit the targets. There may even be an intact bottle or pipe kicking around :)
