After responding to posts by BedfordBob and Steelheadwill with eagle on a cannon buttons this week, it was ironic that I dug one yesterday
In both cases I had responded that the Eagle on the Cannon button was one of my favorites and that I finally dug my one and only in the the spring of 2005 after wanting one for years. Well I was back at the same house site yesterday where I dug mine in 2005. I was just expecting to dig the usual flat buttons, but hoping for a military button or a nice coin. I estimate this house site was occupied from about 1820 to 1890 based on the buttons and coins I have found here over the last 12 years. There is so much iron in the ground here that you can always find something if you go slow, listen hard and dig iffy signals. Well one good target can make your day, and this one made mine
It is Albert's AY52B, Artillery 1808 to 1821.
I also found a few other items including a rough 1848 Large Cent that someone clipped the edge off and punched a hole in the center

I am still patiently waiting for my first.
I guess it will happen one of these days.
