Bummer i cant get this link to work:(
see Big Cypress Hunters post above
Nola_Ken, Charlie P. , TexWolf, ffluries, truckinbutch, diggummup / I wouludn`t even think about firing something this rare and thanks for your input as well.

One more question. :icon_scratch:
Should i do any thing to lube the metalic parts that seem to be dry as a bone or leave it as is and hope it doesn`t rust anymore while looking for a collector?
Thanks for looking everyone.

I think you should always keep a gun oiled but we'll see what others say.

I dont know why your link doesnt work.

I forget what its called but I think you have an old type of bluing that looks brown so do not use modern touch-up cold bluing if this is true.

I guess its called browning. http://www.finishing.com/260/69.shtml

With an antique gun original finish is very important. Just oil it, and don't try to refinish any of it.

as bigcypresshunter said, your finish is called browning, or rust blue. I just finished a new barrel with that process. Not the best photo, but the brown on the barrel shows, I'm about to remove the finish on this lock and brown it with the same process. It's basically a quick chemical rusting of the part, that you can control and stop when you get the color you're after.

I use Birchwood-Casey Barricade on the metal of my firearms. I shoot muzzleloaders and clean them with water and this product protects them very well.

Found two similar Zulu for $165 at this site and the Hunter version for $200 (no buyers yet - they run $50 at gun shows).

Thanks Charlie P.
First one iv`e seen on-line.
I`ve been on vacation so i haven`t had a chance to respond.

The makers stamps on it show it was originally rifled.
I`m in the process of trying to figure out an exact date of manufacture through a link diggumup sent me. :hello2:
http://www.damascus-barrels.com/bp.html
My guess? it`s french made and converted in Belgium sometime after the Prussian War.
FYI it doesn`t have a damascus barrel but i can see where the barrel bands and ram rod where located.
Still feel uneasy about putting any type of lubrication on it.
Happy Hunting everyone and thanks for looking.

I have a good size 1800's Stanley plane collection and I use boiled linseed oil because I figure that is what the original owners would have used. For authenticity, I stay away from any modern synthetic, solvent or petroleum base lubricant. Linseed oil is a great wood preservative and my metal tools look great. Paint failure was basically unheard of 100 years ago with linseed oil. Look it up. My Dad taught me this.

Heres my stuff for cleaning and preserving antique metal and wood tools. I would imagine it would work great on guns as well. Im sure it works on wood. Try it on the metal as a test. I use it on my metal tools and I have no complaints.
