OK SO UP UNTIL ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO I HAD ALMOST NO INTEREST IN treasure hunting even though I've loved history since i was a kid. i was walking home from work, and i like to cut Through the woods so i can smoke, and because it's quicker. Here's where i lost my favorite ring cost me about 2g's, it was dark so i had no chance of finding it so i just memorized where it fell of and came back the next day. so i was looking the next day but couldn't find it, i decided it must have fallen in this small hole that was around where i was searching, so i go home and get a shovel and dig up the hole it goes on for a bout a foot then there is my ring sitting on top of a metal box. at first i was a bit scared cause theres a lot of power lines around my area, but it looked too old so i take it out with my ring an here is what was inside.
anyone have any idea what this stuff is? will post the rest of the pictures later

ALSO; now I'm kinda hyped to find stuff any legends/treasures/ stories about NYC or the Bronx/Yonkers/westchester??? and what a good Detector for a beginner

Cripes ....wheres your adventure....in order to play pirate you have to loot your dads dresser drawer!

I was thinking that it could have been a memory box.....due to the different variety of things in it....but then they are usually accompianed by a letter or note....

second from bottom.

Is that a YOYO ?

YEA I see that now.

:o WOW ZOWIE!! :o
First off. . what an incredible find! Secondly. . outstanding way it came about! ;D

I am not good or too familar with these sort of things, still I am extremely intrigued. . my thought when I saw pictures of what you posted . . it was a box about someone's life. . from youth (toy cap gun & coin ) to adult ( medals & statue) . . maybe someone burried there in tribute to someone . . or perhaps an adult burried there hoping his/her grandchildren would go on a treasure hunt with clues he/she left behind. .

I hope you post pictures of this box. . I am truly curious to what it looks like! Maybe it has some clues on it & once you bring it home & clean it up you will see them ;D

Could you post sizes the next time you write? Maybe a clearer picture on the medals? Bad eyes on my part :-\

That eagle. . could it be related to the Scouts in some fashion? Probably not. . just a thought thou

Taking clues from whatever one suggested about the cap gun, I found this

from what I have seen a nice one, & yours sure looks pretty could sell for around $30 or better, so just my thought if you decide to sell . . . I wouldn't go the ebay way. . but that is just my thought & my opinion.

Link below shows an item I think closely resembles that of picture #8 ( did I count correctly ???? )

Wow what a mystery. . I was amazed at the stuff I found out about the gun maker. . always interesting looking up this stuff ;D Can't wait for your next post!

Bogart :D

The woman's face appears to be on a locket. Somone's face awaits inside.

The little indian fetish appears to be "tourist tat" to borrow from a British friend of mine.

What's the date on the Morgan? My eyes + screen quality won't do it.

Just my two cents but If you find stuff and take pictures you usually take them all on the same surface..right? Why would he hold the last three up? Seems to me that the picture would have been clearer for the last three if they were on the same surface as the first ones..and it doesn't say his post was edited so he couldn't have added more pics to his post....Idk just my thoughts.

I am a researcher...kind of like a crime scene investigator for treasure hunting.....so I like to really get in and look for all the missing pieces. I just want to know more.
You go girl lol

Most likely if the Box is Heavy, it's not a Kids Cache,
but could be Stolen Items from the 60's or 70's.

Could have been hidden there recently to keep someone from stealing those items. Someone afraid of the area they live, or a person/gang member who threatened to take anything of value if they didn't pay protection/dept's. Who knows.

I can't quite read the Red Token.
But it looks like a University Item

WHAT I THINK I SEE IS :

UNIVERSITAS MONTIS ALLISO.......

Would that be University of Vermont ?

Looks like the year is 1839 on that token, but that could be the year the University was opened. Plug; university 1839, into Google and the first hit is: "Mount Allison University 1839–1989. $10 + shipping".
A commemorative pin perhaps?

That soapstone carving looks like its from the west coast of British Columbia. Likely native carved as opposed to eskimo, (judging by what little I know by the style of it), and depending on the age and size, it could be worth a fair amount. But, values are often set based mainly on provenance. Being found in a box in the ground, doesn't say much about that.

F.

all looks beautiful.

Hope it wasn't one of those GEO-cache hunting things. Those guys get salty when someone takes their box.

i have a question, did you loose your ring in quick sand, because theres no way it would sink a foot in a day or so.

if you go back and reread the original post he said it fell down a hole he JUST FOUND.....he didnt know about the hole previously and it didnt sink a foot deep in one day

he said he got his shovel and dug and it went on for about a foot.

It's maybe a souvenir box from a murderer. They are said to like to take things from their victims' houses so they can relive the horrid events for the thrill they get from it. The strangely diverse variety and age of the items makes me think they are like trinkets/souvenirs from a criminal's dastardly deeds.

Or maybe they are pieces from counting coo - the practice of taking items from your enemies without their knowing it - as a means of proving bravery and skill. Could some gang banger have buried his coo as part of the initiation his homies put him through?

Very cool find! I say go back and get the box pronto. I have heard of a story similar to yours, he dug up a box, returned the next day to retreave it and it was gone. Go back ASAP.

I dont think GeoCache would leave a Morgan.
