I have seen a few posts on here about cleaning coins with a heated peroxide solution.
Anyone know how to do this?? I would like to try it on an IH penny I found.

Step by step would be great!!

Thanks

I have done this sevearl times with Indian Head pennies & the results are amazing

1st. get a plastic container & pour a half inch of peroxide in it.

2nd, put that in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds on high (should be enough time to get it hot)

3rd. put the coin in the peroxide AFTER it comes out of the microwave

let it sit in there until the peroxide has cooled off & with your fingers rub it when you take it out to clean it.

4th. repeat the above steps until you are happy with it!

Good luck!

1) Make sure the date on the IH is NOT 1877
2) Pour some peroxide in a small, microwave safe bowl (preferrably glass).
3) Put microwave on high and watch the peroxide until it just starts to bubble.
4) Take out bowl and drop penny in for about 20 minutes. You'll see the solution fizz while it's working.
5) Flip over the coin and repeat if necessary.

Note: This method worked for me on an IH I found. It brought out the details and allowed me to see it and enjoy it.

I wouldn't recommend any type of cleaning method on rare or valuable coins.

Awesome! I'm glad you had good results. One further thing you might want to do is soak the coin in distilled water, or at least tap water, to make sure the peroxide is gone.
