The only Rattle snake canyon I can recall was/is on Camp Pendleton Marine Base. Story goes, they named it Rattle Snake Canyon because that was the only place on the base they hadn't found any snakes.

Might try doing a GNIS lookup to see how many others there are.

From Hwy. 62 in Yucca take Pioneertown Road West, it'ill change into Rimrock Road. When you come to Burns Canyon Road make a left, which will take you to the nugget hunting areas, and Rattlesnake Canyon. Burns Canyon Road ends up at Hwy18, Baldwin Lake, or if you take the Cactus Flats road it’ll put you a little farther down towards Lucerne Valley.

The road is considered a moderate off road and 4x4 is a must. You'll need 4 wheel drive or some kind of off road vehicle.

4x4 is not needed just a good truck. I was up there in Feb with my chevy 2500 two wheel drive. The thing to remember is that RSC is claimed up so you will need to be in a club. there are other places to hunt up there. Remember the patches are spotty at best but there are some nice nuggets. started going there in the mid 70's.

Yes, Rattlesnake Canyon is in Joshua Tree National Park, just Southeast of the "Wonderland Of Rocks" camping and climbing area! :blob10: If you go, don't be caught with a metal detector in your hand! A Ranger will confiscate it from you, and you could also get find/jailed! :violent1: It's because of the Antiquities Law and also in the park region, Indians resided in the areas rocks, and hills, 400 years ago! Rangers are "super hot" when it comes to hunting/digging Indian artifacts, even if you say your looking for relics, gold, or coins! :angry4: So watch out and don't get busted!

Your way off. the RSC he is talking about is off Burns canyon Rd on the way up to Big Bear. Recheck your maps or try using http://www.geocommunicator.gov/blmMap/Map.jsp?MAP=MC this will also show the claims.
