Only had one migraine that I can recall. I was driving long haul, and was making a run from
Texas up to Indianapolis. It was the Fourth of July, and I was only a couple hundred miles
out, and looking forward to seeing the fireworks in Indy.
I'll never forget...it was an absolutely beautiful Summer day, and the drive through Southern
Indiana was a treat...right until my head started hurting. It's rare for me to have any kind of
headache, but I knew right off this wasn't something normal, and I was never so happy as to
pull into the truck stop in the early afternoon.
I remember going into the mini-mart and getting some Tylenol, and I took 2 of 'em right away,
and headed back to my truck. Head felt like it was going to explode, and being a hot day I had
the truck running for the a/c, and just hearing that diesel running was misery. Every time I tried
to lay down I'd hurl, so I ended up in the drivers seat and leaning over the wheel.
A couple hours later I got up to try and watch the fireworks, but couldn't handle the lights or noise.
Was talking to a couple of Canadian drivers, and they gave me a couple of their 222's in hopes
that might get me some relief. Quik gulp and they were down the hatch.
Huge truck stop, and I knew I'd never get to sleep with the truck running, or listening to the
rigs parked around me, so, I dropped my trailer and bobtailed over to a far corner where there
were no trucks parked, and shut my truck off. It had cooled off some, so I draped off the windshield
and opened the windows. Put my pillow on the steering wheel and finally got to sleep. At some
point I had woken up, started the truck and crawled into the bunk in my sleeper. Slept eight
hours straight (which is something you never get to do when running long haul), and the headache
was gone when I woke up. Don't recall hearing anything (booms) from the fireworks.
I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy, so my hats off to those of you who have to endure
them on a regular basis.
