I have heard of that but not tried it. Back in the early 90s when we lived on the Vic surf coast and I fished a lot in salt water using Abu bait casters and a Penn Jig master a guy showed me just rinse the spool with line under a tap and spray the entire reel with WD40. Kept catching fish so it didn't deter them being on the line.
For a go I should at least try it with a lure. They recently changed the recipe here so I wonder if it would work now as good as you and others reckon it does. It still works great as a lubricant but there is virtually no smell now.

The magic is not about the smell. Visuals. It is about the Schlieren of the oil in water. Makes sort of an opalescent/rainbow effect. Just like on the slimy scales of bait fish.

I 'learnt' this good from the fisherman prof when he taught me graduate level 'water chemistry' back in the day. I used to learn something new every day back then.

Speaking of "smart electrical meters",(here), let me tell you about an experiment I did recently.

My temp was at 49f all day long. With the heat turned off.

So, I turned it on and set it for 48. So, when it got down to 48 it could come on.

Just mins later, it was down to 48.

So, I turned down to 47.
Same thing, mins later, down to 47.

So I set it down to 40!

Mins later ? It went *up* to 50!!

Smart meters have no connection to the thermostat. They only know about energy consumption. But changing the thermostat would definitely change the pattern of energy consumption. The meter would see something was different but not why.

It appears to be geared toward getting maximum use of electricity. Setting it lower, the heat shouldn't come on *until* the desired level is reached. This seems to have a moving target. To a point anyway. Can't have any of those peons figure out what we're doing, now can we? 🥶🤷‍♂️

I should establish another bed.
Shallow to allow air is vital. Then temperature.

I've introduced a couple tablespoons of coffee grounds at times. And when I ran a compost bed kept an area adjacent damp and kept crawlers around.

By putting a dozen crawlers in a shallow reused used food dish with lightly damp brown paper towel torn into leaf sized pieces (or used to use black and white news paper) and putting the in the refrigerator they became conditioned after a few days.
Toss one hooked out in the water and rest the fishing rod with the line tightened up and watch the rod tip move about with the crawler .

I used to pick crawlers in spring rains after they had been up and back down a couple times in the season.
Then used commercial bedding in the basements. Ground temp being almost cool enough.
Often when my couple hundred were used up was about the time it was so dry out getting more took effort.
And was the time I thought I should not only be selling crawlers. But selling conditioned crawlers to buyers with deep pockets.

I have given thousands away since I started. I had 3 trays but there was just too many. I now have 2 trays and they pretty much like they say self regulate in numbers. I feed them less often now which also helps keep the numbers in check. When I fed them weekly the numbers would explode and thats when id be giving them away. I only feed once every 3 weeks now and I have all I need.The euros are the best for our hot climate and survive weeks of high temperatures. Though like recently with these 40s we are getting I put a towel then a shade cloth over them and a couple of times a day wet the towel. I can lift the cover and feel the bedding and its cool to touch. They're still demolishing the feed so no problems.
It did once cross my mind to get another "farm" 😄, and sell them but I have an adversity to idiots and imagined someone coming back lying that they all died to get some freebies and me saying yes here have some more as I stuffed a handful into their mouth so I thought it best not to.
