There used to be a few videos of the goldrush in Sudan where they were cutting up big nuggets and melting them. It brought tears to the eyes seeing them do it. That was maybe 15 yrs ago when I saw them. Some beautiful huge specimens too. All destroyed. I knew a guy that went there, it was advised by a guide not to go near the areas being rushed. 😬
Did you ever see any of those videos of them melting down and hacking up the nuggets? They were finding crazy amounts.

No I didn't know anything about them, your the first to say they even existed.
I only watched occasionally something on the Deus detector.
Might click on an old rock tune, then go browse something else while listening to it.
Besides that nothing that I can recall.

No television for the last 13 yrs. We do watch a DVD movie on Friday night and sometimes that will include Saturday night if it's a long one.

Besides that I am pretty babe in the woods when it comes to content.

Lots of people died trying to get to the rush when it hit its peak. It was strange it wasn't all over the news. It was a huge gold rush. There were videos of bodies and belongings strewn along the way as they tried to cross arid regions on foot to get there, unfortunately unprepared for the journey and clueless how hard it would be. Lots of poor villagers amongst them lured by the idea of finding gold and getting out of poverty.
Bummer I can't find the videos.

Agreed..it has been one of "those" days.

Our daughter is, sadly, fighting late stage cancer(s), and my wife is going to go and
spend next week with her, meaning I'll be home caring for myself and the critters,
and with no car since she's driving down to the Portland area.

Jenny has been fighting this crap for nearly ten years now, and she's still got
a "never give up" attitude. My Mrs., on the other hand, is not managing it
too well now that the damn cancer seems to be spreading itself around
Jenny's interior. It'll be good for them to spend some time together.

So, today I had to go and get whatever I'll need for the next week..like food,
cigs and of course, weed. I hate going into cities...even Mt. Vernon..traffic is
nuts, and the stores and highways are packed with too damn many people. I'm
used to our little town of 800....and avoid cities whenever possible.

So, not a great day, but I'm finally settled into my shop to watch some UFC.

I'm so sorry your daughter is dealing with that. We all hope that she'll get through this. My sister-in-law was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer about 5 years ago. They have it to where it stopped spreading and she is maintaining. God bless.

Good morning everyone with coffee in hand Not sure what to say but it's bad here on the Carolina coast fellas. I know some of you snicker up north and I get it, but we don't see snow here much or to this level. I'm right in the middle of this "Snowacaine" they're calling it. 10" snowfall with over 2-3 feet of drifts, winds in the 20's and gusts seen at 50. We don't have equipment for this. Roads are impassable. Emergency can not get out. Temps below freezing, with single digits tonight We are safe though. invested in a house generator when I bought here, so not worried there. Got a pot of lima beans and ham hocks in the crock 😋
A snow blower would be helpful today for sure!

I feel for you, I'm well south of you, about 30 miles north of Savanah Ga. and we got 4" here overnight and down to 20°, which has turned everything to ice, the last time we saw snow here was 8 years ago, very rare and the road crews are not fully prepared for this even though they knew it was coming.

I can see the furnace exhaust from the deck in case it gets too iced. A rare occasion though.

So yeah RC very useful, and I'm thankful that the generator was on the north (windy) side of the house where the accumulation was minimal. The unit also sits above 24" on a platform, Code for flood stages here. But had it been located on the south side where drifts are, i'de be removing quickly.
So i've managed to carry the new pup (14" tall) to a bare spot to do his business finally and shovel the steps at least. Wore out now with insulated coveralls on 😰
Yay the snow has finally subsided with a little sunshine. Wind still gusty but time to break out the leaf blower and see what I can accomplish before the single digits tonight. Record book times we can laugh about another time... check in with ya'll soon.

Next Saturday it's going down to -15F feeling like -26F
But we're looking for the Middle of Feb. where it will be a 30F oh that will feel so nice.

They're call this moon the Snow Moon.
What is it called in your southern parts?

It's really hard to get motived to do things when it's freezing the balls off the brass monkey.

I think I have the Lidar system figured out finally. But there's an updated version to be downloaded at the end of March. Found a few more cellar holes on a few of the old permissions already this morning.
