80s here in socal today

On Tuesday it's reaching 25F
Next Saturday it's going down to -15F feeling like -26F
But we're looking for the Middle of Feb. where it will be a 30F oh that will feel so nice.

They're call this moon the Snow Moon.
What is it called in your southern parts?

It's really hard to get motived to do things when it's freezing the balls off the brass monkey.

I think I have the Lidar system figured out finally. But there's an updated version to be downloaded at the end of March. Found a few more cellar holes on a few of the old permissions already this morning.

Yes it does appear to be called that as well from what I see doing a search.

"The Hunger Moon is the traditional name for the full moon in February, representing a time when winter conditions were at their harshest and food resources were scarce for Native American tribes and early settlers. I hear you guys are having nice weather out there unlike here huh MX? Our friend in Tahoe said like 60s there yesterday. She laughed hearing our report of snow

It has certainly been quite nice here, but I would never laugh at anybody's crummy weather. I lived in Truckee California and South Lake Tahoe for a while, and did my fair share of snow shoveling and blowing.
How's this?

Good Morning to me...good evening to y'all.

There was some recent discussion regarding Potato Soup, and my wife was kind enough
to write up her recipe so I could share it with the gang..it is absolutely delicious!

Cream of Potato Soup (Doris’ Recipe) (makes 9 - 1.5 cup servings)

4 Cups Boiled Potatoes (diced)
8 T unsalted butter
3 cloves garlic (chopped)
¾ cup onion (chopped)
8 oz cream cheese
¾ cup sour cream
4 cups chicken broth (Better Than Bouillon)
*2 cups heavy whipping cream*
*2 cups powdered milk (or skim milk)*
1.5 tsp Basil
Salt, pepper to taste
3-5 Bay Leaf (depends on size of leaf)
1 tsp Smoked Paprika
.5 – 1 tsp Old Bay Seasoning
2 cups Mexican Blend Cheese (shredded)
*or you can use 4 cups half and half in place of heavy cream and powdered milk

Soften onion in 4 T melted butter, add garlic and saute for 2-3 min. Add potatoes to
onions and garlic and lightly brown. Add liquids, rest of butter, and seasonings to
potatoes along with bay leaf. Simmer, don’t boil, for 1 – 2 hours to blend flavors. Add
cream cheese and sour cream. After cream cheese melts, add shredded cheese. After
cheese is melted, serve and enjoy.
There are ways to cut the calories, but it won’t be the same or as good. ENJOY!!!

Holy schnizelstick...that's a lot of snow. Same kind of stuff that buried the Donner Party.

I lived in Truckee for a summer, way back in the mid-70's. Worked for Cottage Pines resort
as a "gopher", renting out the boats, fueling boats that came in, etc. It was the summer I turned
13......yeah..that was a while ago.

Anyone familiar with old rings and emeralds. Found this ring deep on a site where houses from the 1800s to early 1900s used to be. Stone is broken but appears to be a large emerald ring looks older too. Could be wrong highly disappointed the stone is broken hopefully it was damaged before I dug it

Note I am aware being a non precious metal ring it's highly unlikely an emerald, I do know sometimes older rings would still get big stones that could be emerald. I know highly unlikely though. Doesn't glow at all under UV which is good but still doesnt mean much
