I'm curious why so few members give their location in their profiles. I don't care to know what street a guy lives on, or even what city or town, but why not list the general area, or even the state?

I agree, especially when they say "here, or where I'm at, or talking about the weather, etc., etc.", how are we suppose to know where they are!!

if you're lucky.
Peerless brand has multiple manufacturers. One in India was producing thorium mantles a while back still.
Yttrium is more common today. Though a duller around -20% of thorium glow.

Don't ingest /huff/ broken burned ash of mantles. Maybe even don't rub them onto bare skin.
Vintage mantles remain sought after ; and imports abound.
Current Coleman produced mantles are junk. Which is disappointing given it is Coleman.
Not because of switching to yttrium. But because even new mantles can /do get holes blown in them prematurely. it's in the material and the weave. Though a burned in mantle is really just a high temp cage of ash with the ghost of Thorium or Yttrium glowing when heated..
And a jet of heated gas from a crap mantle hitting the globes glass will prevail in time. There are permanent discolored spots on some to prove it.
And a jet of heated gas directed by a hole in a mantle at a fuel source is going to pose more risk to a user than a thorium mantle. Newer lanterns (white gas production isn't supplying the domestic market any of late)
have a heat shield between frame and fount.
Those without but containing a Shrader valve (oh my goodness Coleman what have you done?) I've added a shield to.
Crap mantles burning holes into a fuel tank potential? What an insult to the founder and history.

Upper 40's or warmer yesterday. Above freezing already this morning.
Still snow on the roofs.
That should end today.
This end of the road is draining as it should where I cleared a patch for it.
Out toward the main road I haven't cut drains yet.

We're going to see 40F today so I will try some tractor tilling again to take the rollers out of the lane. Do some passes around yhe yard to take some of the snow pack down.

Going till in front of the barn doors scrap it down so the hens can get some fresh air and peck around for a bit.

Tractor started up great, started tilling, pto shaft separated. Back half 2 ft into the snow bank.
Front half doing the 540 rpm. clanging away.

guess what someone might offer you. FWIW, paint because you love painting,
and not for the money..

I paint because I want my paintings to end up on someone’s wall one day to be appreciated everyday. and not collecting dust in a big pile of paintings. Like they are now.

Those bring back serious memories. A lot if cat fishing at night with Coleman lanterns. Hanging them in trees at campsites too. My buddies Husky pup knocked his lantern down an embankment into the lake. New globe & mantels, it was fine.
