Organics play a role, like tannins and other non mineral dyes.
Yeah I hear you, tannins turn it tea coloured, I was referring to the blues. I don't know of any organics that turn water blue, though there may be.
Our gumtree leaves will make the water almost black in some small waters.

Ok, line cut. Yeah your right, braids pretty delicate abrasion wise. I only use mono when bait fishing. I do love braid for lures though. I love Gliss Monotex for casting lighter lures. It didn't catch on though here as people were tying their usual knots, braid to leader, and they were coming undone and breaking. I just use wetted back to back uni knots to join them but do 7 wraps instead of the typical 3 to 4 on each knot. Iv never had them come undone nor break. But yeah it doesn't like structure. Crazy thin line, 13lb is like sewing cotton. Gotta wrap it around a stick though if you get snagged to pull the lure off. Worse than typical braid for cutting you if you pull on the line with your hand and fingers. I got a few spools but now its unavailable here, not even sure its still made.

A nice rainbow I got using it.

I'll probably buy monofilament for next respooling's.
Often 8 lb. and then use 6 pound if I want a leader.
A weak knot can allow 8 lb. each side of a swivel.
(I use a barrel swivel too; to connect a braid mainline to a mono leader.)
When using a three way swivel I'll tie a weak knot on the weight/dropper side. For relief if snagged/fouled in rocks ect. that allows using mainline material instead of using precious (l.o.l.) leader material.

Need new line on many reels. Maybe I should look at bulk spools.
I'll still find a use for braid though. Trolling a heavy rig maybe. I haven't graduated to wire. I can almost imagine the mess while learning.

I have a solid glass rod with 20 lb. on its accompanying reel..
Probably a couple other reels with 12 lb. on them.
8 lb. has long been my bread and butter though.
Reels are spooled with 6 lb. on smaller ones. i've a few old Century 100 B's. Maybe an A or two.( Zebco's too of course. (Zero Hour Bomb Company.) mostly 200's but others too.
A favorite are Mitchell 300 A's. Been a lot of fish brought to hand with them. All should be spooled with 8 lb.( The 200 yard capacity 300A model spools might have backing line on them for filler. )

Fish and chips tonight !! :headbang: Mind the teeth !!! :evil6:

Sorry no, its more prone to nicks and damage. You might be thinking monofilament line.

When mono gets nicked it is immediately on the fast track to catastrophic failure. Braided gets nicked on a strand and lives on. When your line is frayed you cut off or knot off the bad part. Your decision to use braid has rewarded you with that opportunity. Mono left you with only the part closest to your reel and if that is no longer long enough you replace it. I've been fishing for over 60 years. I've seen a thing or 3.

all that behind us, the trick in sharpish things is to use a drop sinker, just tied or off a 3way swivel. Light line to sinker so you lose only that.

Good Morning folks! It's yet another beautiful, drizzly day here, but Spring is on
the way...sometime.

Our rivers clean up really fast around here so we can easily avoid the brown water ! :evil6: It's the tourists and all the guides that we could do without so damn many !

Not many guides left fishing the Skagit, and we see most of them during Coho season.
In the Spring, during the wild steelhead run, a motor can not be operating while a line is
in the water, so that makes side drifting from a sled a real issue, although a few have gone
to adding oars.

I've caught 'em on spoons, side drifting (from a DB), pulling plugs and drifting floats
and jigs...but getting a take-down on a plug is about the most exciting..

That's a great video of the guide outfit..makes me wanna dust off my Bill Herzog spoon
rod and have a go at 'em. There's a deep slot with some boulders off of my beach, but it's
tough to get a spoon down in there, and mistakes are costly. I've probably got a hundred
bucks worth of spoons sitting down there on some damn snag.

I'll respectfully have to disagree with you on our use of lines and experiences.
That's not my experience at all. A tight braid under pressure will ping off on just about any sharp abrasive object it touches. Ping off I mean snap. A mono will show abrasion marks but still be intact. My experiences are in line with just about anything you will read anywhere in regards to mono vs braid for abrasion resistance and breaking on structure contact. I landed sharks that had the mono scrape across rocks and who knows what shellfish on them, get it in and see shredding along the line for several feet, but it landed the shark. A braid would no way have survived it ever.

Yikes!

Hey that spool is looking a little bit stingy on line .
Yeh a monster stole my lead head and ran off with a bit of line ! A friend was using my monster surf rod !

Well at least you weren't completely spooled.

Just hold the rod and reel upside down and crank the handle backwards if media photographers come around.

Ladyfriend finally crashed.
Been very limited on sleep a couple days.
She hardly disappeared and the patient went and took a healthy drink of water.
She had just mentioned the likelihood of more under skin injections as his organs get worse.
Then we discussed others in the past we used syringes to put water in the mouths of.

His kidneys seem to be the biggest issue based on all the tests ran.
( She went to the vet and got the print out s today after forgetting yesterday.)
I forget the medical terms but it's the amount of urea being about as high as test charting goes based on whatever the reasoning for the graphs upper limit range is. I'm guessing failure factors in the where. of the limit.

So ; low protein. No added fat and preferably very little fat.
He ate again and todays two meals were half of "normal" volume consumed. Which is just fine by me.
What we would like to see is his prior running to and fro to his crate at feeding time and barking insistently by his crate again. Like "hurry it up and bring my food!"
I've been carrying him to it lately.
Feeding time is his only crate time.
He and a brother of his get the living room at night.
His brother also getting old is a former world champ.
The patient has been to a couple dog shows and was pushing ladyfriends rollator (rolling walker) by himself while carrying his lead at one of them.. No he wasn't taught that. Just kind of how he is.
A very attentive and tactile canine when he isn't studying something.. Or while he is sometimes,

I do hope everything works out RC.
Best wishes.

Thank you.

There is an inevitable.
Just don't want to end it if his quality of life isn't too low. Yet.

Other dogs have revived and seen a couple more bonus weeks. Some months. A couple , years.
We just try what we can to inspire a bounce back.
Of course it doesn't always happen.

I almost mentioned a grappling gook.
My last one in the shed still is mild quarterish roundstock and a metal washer welded on for an eye. Crude. And I've welded up far better.
Being it will bend saves losing it on too heavy an item. (IF the rope don't break.)

Pulled a snag (generous tree limb) out of a trout stream once that three of us picked for a good racing minute before tossing it back. Almost looked like a Christmas theme for all the tackle on it.
( No wonder fish don't just grab a lure seen in the water.)

dr evil how about no gif.gif

I'm so sorry to hear this.

Great, now I'm gonna start finding those silly looking things in the lake. :BangHead:
Well I would take it if someone gifted it to me ! I just wouldn't pay for one ! :evil6: :evil6:

Our last two dogs (Irish terriers) both had failing kidneys in the end. We gave subdural lactated ringers daily for the last 1.5-2 years for both of them. It's a big PITA but gave them quite a bit of extra quality time.
