Dove Season is open a whole month here in OK. What is the length of the season and the bag limit in Texas? I would love to do both hunting and detecting if a migratory bird license is not too expensive. I would even go down early if someone there would set something up. I got plenty of shotguns and ammo if someone else wanted to hunt. Monty

Monty,

I like the way you think! This could be the first dove hunt, relic hunt, and dove barbeque ever held. It would be so popular we'd have to have drawings for invitations. It could turn the whole metal detecting world on its head. This way you combine different adventures into one hunt. Oh yeah, not to forget arrowhead hunting........water detecting, 4 wheeler exploring. Heck, people from Europe would want to come to this. Let's not forget what Texas is famous for..... Everything is bigger in Texas! This could be what other events strive to be......the most unique hunt in the states! I rest my case!!! Let's do it! :hello2:

Steve ;D

I think they have white wing doves as well as mourning doves down there? I'll check the Texas regs for out of state licenses. I use to make a mean dove and dressing dish but haven't made it in a long time. You wrap the dove breasts in bacon and put them breast down in the dressing and when the dressing is almost done, turn the doves breast up for 20 minutes or so and serve hot. Also cooked on the grill is yummy. With all my health problems , dove hunting is my kind of hunting now. Sit in one place and pop them as they fly over. I stocked up on ammo several years a go and have abot 10 boxes of each, 12 gauge 2 3/4 field loads #8, 20 guage 2 3/4 #8 and .410 bore 3" # 7 1/2 plus guns to shoot them all! But I think I have got too fat for my camo gear! Monty

Did you say if there was a place to camp...preferrably out of the wind and not next to any railroad tracks....

We didn't check on any places to camp last time I don't think. We'll have to find something. I don't remember any trains blasting thru there and wind is no problem!!

I'll check for camp area w/facilities and get back in a day or two.

Ok, providing someone was to invite us to dove hunt, hint, hint, hint: There is a special non-resident 5 day license that costs $48.00 and you have to have a hip permit that is free since dove are migratory. I don't know what the limit is but I will check on that as I forgot! Monty

Bag Limit 15 a day. Special white wing area is sw Texas but don't know if Uvalde is in it?

Monty,Ed is checking to see if he can find someone who will let 2,maybe 3 guys hunt for two days before our md hunt(no promises). Also,if this happens, the date for the md hunt will again have to be moved to the 1st week of Oct.Most of the dove hunting down there is tank(small pond) hunting. If moving the md hunt dates up two weeks causes too much hardship on those who planned on the 16th,I'm afraid you'll just have to shoot those doves in your dreams or kick back and hang with Ed and Uvalde for two weeks..I'll get back when I hear something.

Ok, until a firm date is settled on I won't be making anymore plans. I feel like a ping pong ball. Monty

I am also waiting for the date to settle out, but I plan to go whatever the date is. I will just put off other activities and hop in
(whatever I have then) and head out. My current primary transportation has 176 thousand miles as of today. It went to KS without a hitch.......... :)

I am also expecting to have at the hunt, an unannounced but well known figure who may join us for a bit, just for the relaxation and camaraderie.

Should make things really interesting............ for all us regulars.

See you there!
