Hi all,

This morning I found out my son (who is in middle school) got straight A's on his report card..I kept my side of the bargain and gave him a small cash reward. He then told me he had enough saved for a little guitar amplifier he's been wanting, so we headed off to our favorite music store and ordered it.

Over the past couple of months I've mentioned the "guitar fund" in some of my posts, and the support I received from you all since then was truly appreciated. Some of you have known for awhile that I wanted to buy myself "a present" with all the clad I've found this year, something I could use and at the same time share a neat story on how the present came to be. It clearly represents the two pasttimes in my life that mean the most to me..my music (that came first at age 14) and my metal detecting, which I began in high school, then quit and started again 13 years ago.

Anyway, after we ordered my son's amp, we went into a room full of acoustic guitars. I saw the one I've had my eye on for about a year now. This particular model isn't in the same league as my Ovation acoustic-electric or my U.S. Stratocaster, but it looked gorgeous and sounded incredible for the price.

Since the last week of December, I've dug up, cleaned, rolled and swapped coins for cash, saving the money it in an envelope until today..I finally dug enough to pay for the sucker so I called the store and made a cash offer for the guitar. My offer was accepted, so with cash in hand, my son and I high-tailed it back to the store, where the guitar was waiting for me. They even threw in a new set of strings  I'll have to dig up another hundred bucks so I could buy a case for it..until then it goes back in the box they gave me after I'm done playing.

My son was kind enough to take the following pics..here's me with the cash before we left

Here is the guitar itself taken out of the box when we got home

And here's me with my new present

It was truly a memorable day..thanks for reading and Happy Hunting!

Good job Natman, all that digging paid off well for you and your son Congrats on the amp, the guitar is sweeet. Congrats to your son with the straight A's too. 100 bucks for the case, with the way you hunt you'll have that in no time.
Good Luck!

Thats what its all about Nat. You found your treasure there for sure. ;D Now go write a song about the ridiculous amount of rings you're going to find this year. :D :o :o ;D Good job brother.

It's a beauty! I hear Breedlove's are great instruments.

One passion supporting another. That's the way to do it. Congrats!

One Happy Man Nat....from the Before until the After pic's,don't get much better than that, play on......

That's just awesome, Nat!!

Hmmmm....a pile of discolored clad or a brand new acoustic guitar.....I don't even have to think too long about that one ;D
I couldn't think of a better way to spend that clad, since I love guitars too.

Now I think it would be cool to come up with some lyrics and melody for a detecting song on your brand new guitar!!

Congrats,

Thank you kimsdad..just to avoid confusion, the guitar is actually an Epiphone EJ200..the box is just something they let me have so I could transport it without risking it getting it damaged or scratched on the way home. I didn't have the money for the case so that's next on my list of things to get.

Thanks Dan..I had to think of something I would enjoy having, but I also wanted it to stand for something..I also wanted it to be kept in the family so they could also enjoy it, along with the story of how it was actually bought..I think it would be great inspiration and a positive way of looking at the hobby in the future.

About writing a song..I think that's a possibility..I've only written 3 songs in my life that I've actually had the nerve to record, but a song about detecting would be a great novelty..who knows, maybe I could call it "It's Not The Coins, It's You I Dig or I've Got The Back-Hurtin', Stiff Leg Walkin' Sore Hand Diggin' Metal Detectin' Blues :D ;D

Thanks again you guys!
Nat

:D My VERY first thought when I read your post, Nat! ;D How 'bout a little Sweet Home Alabama? All you'd need now would be a jar to hold the tips! You'd have that case in no time at all! ;D

Way to go! GREAT pictures too!

Nana
