What happened to this forum, 2nd ammenment

If that forum was removed because a few people complained, that's not right. They will just try to get other things stopped, they don't quit. If they were offended then don't go there anymore. T NET has the right to do what they want, its their site, but if they took it away because of a few whiners I think it was a bad choice. Decisions have to be made that aren't going to make everyone happy but Im tired of people being OFFENDED by every little thing.

Coffee cake anyone?

In the end, some people made sure Forum Foundry knew what was being posted. Made sure that they understood the context. Obviously FF didn't like what they saw. And the forum is history.

That Forum Foundry wouldn't allow a conditional 2nd amendment thread shows us they are aware that trying to moderate such a hot button topic is beyond their means.
I absolutely agree that there were a very small group of people who made sure every little thing that happened was known. How about we stop playing games is all I said. OB, PWP, UM, & JB & maybe 1 or 2 others decided to band together and make a conscious effort to get the forum removed. Willful destruction because it went against what they believe in. They constantly complained about the content but were there all day every day participating. If a handful of members did that very same thing causing intentional disruption of ANY other forum on here it would be them who would face the consequences. Like the example I used with alternative treasure locating methods. Bashing the folks who believe in those methods is against the rules and can result in being banned. For reasons none of us are privy to we were not given that same protection and they got away with it. Too late now but it's still a bitter pill to swallow.

All in all,it may be for the best that the Second Amendment forum is gone, seemed like most of the time it was one giant pizzin contest because of a few who couldn't control themselves(pun intended) All means of actual discussion were
diverted (pun intended again) by big egos(make of that what you will)

It is another case where a scant few dictate to thew masses. Seems to be an epidemic in this day and age.

Please obey our rules....

We will NOT go quietly into the night!

Here we go, the troll word has been brought up. ::)
You know, there's this famous book and I'll quote something from it.....
"There's nothing new under the sun." "It's all been done before."
Anyone remember the forum "World News and Events" that was here a few years ago?
Or the "Oh My God" forum where Catholics fought every other denomination?
Has T-net finally learned its lesson?
How could a 2nd amendment forum NOT be political? :icon_scratch:
Even in this thread the right-aligned types are actually the ones crying and complaining that the lefties got their precious forum removed.
Give it up already and GO TREASURE HUNTING!
Yes, I just expressed my opinion. BIG DEAL.
So, I have an opinion. Do you think I care if a bunch of strangers on the internet agree or disagree my opinion?
Some here think an opinion is soooo precious.
Some duck goof from a reality show has an opinion also.
Too bad so many here had to start thread after thread talking about one man's opinion like it was the gospel or something.
WHO CARES!
Go ahead, get offended by my post. Edit it or even delete it.
I won't lose sleep tonight.
CAN WE ALL GET ALONG NOW?
Happy New Year. Let's hope it's a peaceful one.
Cheers,
Dave.

NH and some others here may be looking at this in the wrong way. It is impossible for any member or small group of members to get anything banned here. What these people did was point out the content and context of what was being posted on those threads. It is that content that got the forums booted.

Had Forum Foundry looked into the complaints and found no grounds to intervene the threads would still be up and running.

if anyone wants to complain "hey we were saying things and acting in a way that wasn't appropriate for a national multi racial, multi cultural audience until some people got offended and brought it to the owner's attention, and ruined it for us!" That would be a valid complaint.

But being upset that others here who realized that much of the content was inappropriate for the general metal detecting audience is misdirected.

More so this forum is, in the end, a business. Business is ill advised to support political or religious commentary.

Yes. And its so interesting how some people feel they have total license to post any inappropriate material they choose, as long as they feel it promotes their agenda. Forum Foundry wisely recognized what the situation was, and corrected it, and I sincerely thank them for that!

The 2nd amendment is an American issue - So, who cares what a Canadien or any other country's opinion is on the subject. We in America understand the powers that are in-country fighting against our freedoms. They have attacked us here on TN and have won - or so it seems............

Of-course, only what UM says is approved, ban all others. Careful what ya wish for there UM.

The only way a political or hot topic thread can work is to remove anonymity. Everyone posts under their real identity. Doing this would put a lid on the rudeness and threats. it would make many think twice before posting something they'd have no problem posting in the blind. Many sites are moving in this direction.

And what was your agenda unclemat?Wait dont say it,we already know. The 2nd was only a hot topic because of those who opposed and attacked it.Thats why it was a so called hot topic. What thread are people going to turn into a hot topic now?The health thread?

I like that NF - Probably the first time we have ever agreed on something!!!! :icon_thumright:

Feeling like we are constantly living under a veiled threat is exactly why the SA forum was created IMHO and I'll continue to speak my mind while not breaking the site's rules. I'm getting a moat anyway.

After reading this entire thread through, some how I was reminded of this song my father use to play when I was a youngster:

Get an escape tunnel first coily.Once your moat is breached your done.

The finest moment of the now gone sub-forum was "The Christmas Truce." Those who elected to participate treated each other with the respect other members deserve, found common ground with each other, and shared something beyond themselves. And the rules were the same for everyone.

Happy New Year to all,

~ The Old Bookaroo
