A BEALE CODE IS A DOCUMENT / BOOK TYPE CODE (cypher text) * one must know which document / BOOK was used --and which "word" in the document was assigned which number in order to decode it properly .

the beale code has existed since 1819 (almost 200 years ago)- currently to date as far as i know no one has "unlocked" its secerts that i know of .

Not that this will help much..but the code has nothing to do with any mathematics or WWII submarine machine. It is...

Well, since it's only 17 characters and none repeat.... along with the fact that that there is zero math involved so it's a straight transposition; #=letter.

It's impossible to decypher without a pure brute force attack of guessing random letters for the unknowns. It's also unknown if the spaces have been removed or if they are represented. That also means there are millions of possible "solutions".

I gave up on the Beale codes years ago after I took them to a friend that worked on a top secret code breaking computer and it failed. He said the only way to break it was to guess the right key document it was based on.
The one that has been broken took a person years of guessing key documents that were around at the time of the event. Frank
