If you can get access to a microscope that may help too. Local high schools/colleges might be able to help you there.

Just a word to Petrie502. I know that it's very embarrassing to be wrong. My eyes sure ain't what they used to be. These guys are giving you a good riding in their impatience to see what they ALL want to see. That the coin truly is 1856. From what I've seen here, they can be almost vicious in their peer pressure. But, don't let that stop you from coming back in this post and saying, welp, guess I was wrong. :dontknow:

The people I've witnessed in here can ALSO be a VERY forgiving and kind group too.

If, now, it truly turns out to be 1856, you just take your good ole time and post the proof whenever you feel like. LOL Serve 'em right for the riding. LOL

HH!

You might be able to do a rubbing with stiff tissue and a charcoal pencil. Never tried it myself on a coin...

Drop it in a glass of Coke - totally the wrong thing to do, but at least we will all know before its disintegrates!!

Make no mistake everyone here is cheering for him. But if it doesn't work out that's just how it goes, and why the damn things are so rare. I don't think it's a real shocker when someone *doesn't* find a rare coin. (It's rather normal)
