What's new

Ill probably get razed for this but does it seem like posts are mean lately?

Early on I put Frankn on Ignore. For almost 3 days.
Now I think his irritable art work doesn't compliment his knowledge and wisdom. LOL
And I sort of miss TICM. Hope he is well.
Ray

I still wonder why ..tcim .. left and he went fast.....

I may have the term wrong- I think spammer like an invisible weasel who lurks and then spins threads into something they're not, starts bullying and insulting people just to see how many people he can get to jump on board till the poor guy is just pummeled and humiliated. I'll be glad to edit if someone has the right word for that.

...Exactly GrizLeeBear.... that's why texting is so tough...

Bev, the term you are looking for is "Troll" basically they hide under bridges (behind their monitors) and terrorize passerby's.
Troll (Internet) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But I have noticed it, and I tend to avoid the threads where people are trying to start fights. I'm here for the cool finds, but nothing ticks me off more than the people calling someone's finds fake when the rules clearly are against it. If everyone just assumed positive intent from the posters, and not negative intent, it would avoid kerfuffles over misinterpreted sarcasm.

Did TCIM get kicked off or leave under his own power?

Bev...

I believe most of the problems come from the West Coast...

What'a you think, Kuger!!??

LOL!!!!!

No one can assume why TCIM decided to take a break. It may not have had a thing to do with anything here. He could be going through personal issues which, well, are personal. I did see his last thread and I wasnt offended by what he wrote. It was blantantly obvious that many people took personal offense and attacked him mercilessly. I'm not saying what his story is because I honestly dont know but- what if the poor guy was depressed or worse? What some people said couldve pushed him right over the edge. It was bullying plain and simple and it was clear that a few people took immense pleasure in trying to destroy him. You can say whatever you want, that what was written shouldnt matter, etc. but it does. What is said could be a pivotal point in someone's life- it could make someone stronger OR it could be a deciding factor to creating a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Let's hope nothing like that happened.
That was just one thread, there are a few others that are just as cruel.

My bad- I just just edited my first post and changed spammer to troll... My mistake.

No worries, we all have different ways of saying it. :) I am glad I found this site.

Me too :)...A little kindness goes a long way..hope you all have a good day today!

Life is not all butterflies and roses...wonderful concept, but not how it is...everyone of us will go through hardships and have tragedy in our lives...If as an adult you cant handle a forum that has strict rules about insulting and being mean to someone then you are going to have a tough time in the rest of your life...there are other forums on the internet where anything goes...this one is about as mild as it gets. Not trying to be insensitive...but maybe forums arent the place for some people to be...just saying I dont believe T-NET is a bad place with bad people...there are a few bad people in every aspect of life and I hope everyone can deal with them because they dont matter...the good people matter.

The problem, especially on a detecting forum, is a combination of factors. First, it's cabin fever. Things always get "snippier" when people are stuck inside for long periods. I've watched it happen every winter for over a decade here. Another is that it is hard to discern tone through text, combine that with some members who are looking for a way to get offended (see "cabin fever"). Then you have people who don't know how to discuss differing opinions. To them, any disagreement with what they say is an instant fight in their mind.
Throw in a few trolls and things can get explosive fast.

I have learned over the years to forgive and forget little incidents. Some great members can can have bad days and appear very rude on occasion, I know I have been warned and maybe even given a few time outs over the years. :violent1:

Heck, I've gone at it with Keppy MANY times but he's not a bad guy, and I agree with most of his posts.

No life is not all roses for sure , I don't know about you but when things are hard it sure helps me to experience a little kindness ..

Bev,
Your post is touching on something larger than just T-net.
It's the internet. People who normally wouldn't be so bold as to say something to your face are now like a guy in a bar who just drank plenty of confidence.
Pencil neck geeks who were laughed at in school are now bullies on cyberspace.
Police departments are distributing their staff to monitor online bullying after a teenage girl committed suicide. The internet is a chaotic jungle and policing is now required.
Beautiful videos on U-tube will always have some disgusting comments left by some goof trying to get a rise out of people.
I'm not a fan of the term troll. This term is used loosely.
I remember when T-net had a political forum and the term was used on anyone who would disagree with the cliche. The cliche would often be an aggressive lot (usually right-wingers) who would bully any liberal types out of the discussion. The troll concept got to the point where members were accusing new members as being someone else who is going under a new user name.
I'm not saying trolls don't exist but the term is used often when there is someone who disagrees with another opinion. Just like those who disagree are called "Haters."
I think when talking about T-net that those who are mean or make insulting comments probably aren't that bad of a person in real life.
They may have a low self esteem or some sort of social dysfunction and when behind that computer screen, they become like that guy at the bar who just drank a bunch of beer and is now brave enough to talk to that woman or pick a fight with a guy twice his size.
If you think it's bad now just wait a few years. Currently, everyone walking around like zombies with their telecommunication devices stuck up their.......
It's only going to get worse the more we are "Plugged in."
Cheers,
Dave.

I wish there was more kindness in the world...it would be a better place.

I think I got into it with you before Jason but I dont hold grudges and like you say, someone could be having a bad day.

I'm pretty busy most of the time. I come on, look around to try and catch up on things. Here and there I'll post a find or what not.

Lately, I'll browse around and starting reading a thread or two and all of a sudden the posts just get derogatory, insulting and end up coming to down-right name calling. I'll look and if I see it's a newer member, I'll just fluff it off to some bored TROLL. Other times it looks like they are long time members!

I'm not going to name any thread or any member in particular because it's not really necessary. Also because they're not hard to find.

I know I'll get some posts telling me to deal with it or go away but I may not be the only one who sees this nasty trend escalating. I'm just thinking that we could be losing both new members and seasoned members, both of whom may have a lot of valuable input.

I dont expect everyone on here to be saints or angels but I bet a lot of people want to post and think twice about it, not wanting it to be misinterpreted.
:hello2::laughing7::thumbsup:
I want to say thank you for this post. I have seen some snarky comments here. and am glad that you took the time to say it so eloquently. Thank you very much.
