I was feeling a little blue that my one room schoolhouse site was finally cleaned out. My DFX and my brothers Explorer SE have pounded this site but i was in the neighborhood tonight and wanted to try a new setting. After revisiting Jimmy Sierra's book i decided to slow my sweep speed down to one and just work REALLY slow. I cranked my AC and DC sensitivities to near max, preamp gain to 4,sweep speed to one and use mixed mode with audio osculation on. I started swingin next to old dug plugs and wasn't real hopefull but got a weak broken signal right away and out came this beautiful SL Dime! I passed the coil over the hole before covering and got another signal!! The crusty 1884 Indian Head! An 1800's pocket spill, unreal. Next was this nice little "91" Indian Head that was an honest 6 inches deep, gave a very weak signal and the only clue i had was i was in mixed mode and got a increase in the buzzing. The discrimination tone was tiny and i only got a signal with the coil moving just a few inches side to side.SLOW,SLOW,SLOW...I topped things off with a Merc.I'm new this year to the DFX and I'm sure i have a lot to learn about it, but I'm finding that the slower the better if you're in an area that's producing. Ok,sorry for the rambling but I've dreamed about there being a Seated Liberty on this site and I'm just thrilled to have found one. Thanks for looking!!! Jerry

Cool dime...seated always a moment to remember!

Very very sweet going on the Seated and to be part of a pocket spill is just awesome.

Great story and nice finds!

I bet you are loving that DFX!!!!

Jimmy's book is a great one! I have gone back and read it over and over, and each time I learn something new about the DFX!

Congrats on the seated!

Congrats on that milestone, and other nice finds!

Hi Jerry

Technical Data... the indispensable tool.

Learning new ways of searching can find things others have passed over. Your story has helped a lot of us here by seeing how you learned something new and scored a seated liberty, a Mercury, and two IH's.... thanks for sharing

The Mercury dime is lovely.

I'm Thrilled for you!  That first Seated is something that you can never, EVER forget.

That site has been an Awesome site for you.   I'd love to see a photo of all of the finds together once you get it cleaned out.

P.S.--all good sites come to an end. Don't spend your time gettin' blue about a site worked out. Get out there and find another great spot! Unless the spot has Tons of finds to be made, the Iron Brigade and I go through a site a hunt. We work one spot with 3 or 4 people swingin all day--and end up going through sites like dirty socks. More sites are out there for you--and even better ones! Now go get 'em.

Great finds and congrats on your first Seated Dime. Looks like the old one room school house is done giving up the goodies yet. The hard winter we had here in Ohio, made a lot of coins turn in the soil.

I bet if you go back and dig all those iffy signals you will pull out more goodies. I've done it with most of my detectors. Just gotta slow down and listen to your headset. I do hope you are using a good headset.

W@W...congrats on the seated Jerry  I'll tell you what...I don't care what brand of detector anyone swings...you're right...the slooooower you go...the better the finds are. Me....I got a whites...a minelab...and a Fisher. I've found when I don't get in a hurry...and just absolutely creep along...thats when the sweeties pop out.
Good luck on mastering that DFX. They are a great machine.
