A friend dug this the other day and asked if I knew anything about it, but I had never heard of it. He said that it's a tooled top half oval and measures 5.5" h. Sounds like a good one, but I dunno. Hoping y'all can help out. Thanks, everybody.

The embossing reads: "GOLDEN ROD LOTION / BRAND / A REMEDY FOR GONORRHEA"

After looking for a few minutes I could not find anything on it. I'm sure it's somewhere if you look long enough but my guess is it's more on the rare side. Might be worth something..probably atleast $20. Could be worth a lot more...good luck!

That bottle is so cool!

old era medical bottle * most likely late 1880 thru early say 1920 's --before the pure food and drug act of the 1930's forced many quack medicenes out of business

Golden rod lotion ...LOL.

Oh god I just picture the poor sap who rubbed that crap on...
sheesh.
Liquid castration... heh

plenty of Goldenrod here in PA

Warm sweet goldenrod tea has diaphoretic properties; taken cold it stimulates the system and helps to dispel flatulence. A tea made from the dried leaves and flowers is an aromatic beverage and can be used to improve the taste of other medicinal preparations. Native Americans applied a lotion made from goldenrod flowers to bee stings. Promotes sweating in fevers. An infusion of flowers has been used to treat kidney gravel and dropsy. A digestive stimulant. Used for colic, to regulate menses, cystitis, colds, coughs, dysentery, diarrhea, measles; externally, a wash for rheumatism, neuralgia, headaches. Externally, treats old sores, wounds, sores or ulcers in the mouth.
Culpeper says use of this herb will “fasten the teeth that are loose in the gums.”

If the lip is tooled it's no later than 1910 definitely not 1920's.

I was actually thinking this was in the comedy sub-forum, sorry...... I came in off the "recent thread" postings
what Ivan said, before fda stuffs, oh lordy...... :laughing7:
wouldn't know nothing about....... :laughing7: sorry, good luck....... nice looking bottle!

Pure Food & Drug Act is 1906. However, since the bottle says Remedy, not Cure, it is possible that this bottle dates after 1900 until about 1920.

You'd be surprised how far into the 1900s things were hand blown with tooled tops. 1920 is about the cut off date.

Most hand blown bottles are pre 1915. The word remedy was used commonly in the late 1800's as well..doesn't necessarily mean it's after 1906. My guess is still no later than 1910.

I understand, that's why I said 1920 is normally the cut off. All I was trying to say is they did hand blow bottles up until 1920. Different companies caught onto the technology at different times.

Noboby EVER made a "hand blown" bottle, mouth blown yes, hand blown no....

I think people say "hand blown" as meaning manufactured by hand, not by a machine.

I also use the term "hand blown" In my opinion hand blown just sounds better...lol. I think as long as you understand it's not a literal term it's fine to use. It's not anything to be offended by...just a term.

I agree with you both, I just always find the term funny... carry on :occasion14:
