I bet it was fantastic to see live.
Where I used to live in Maryborough Victoria they have the largest Scottish gathering and games in the Southern Hemisphere. All the traditional music with pipes and drums, highland games of caber tossing and stone lifting, dancing the lot. All ends with a huge fireworks display. Its pretty well put on really. This year its the 163rd event. A lot of Scotts came here to Victoria during the goldrush.

Let me tell you a true story.

I was sitting at a stop light and listening to some Johnny Cash on my player. Along comes this low slung/fast type car, with their hip hop music blaring. I got a lil perturbed. So, I cranked up my volume a bit. He looked over with a snide sneer and proceeded to turn his up. Of course....I cranked my stereo to the max. He looked back at me, a bit angry but...with kind of a look of .....surprise. (What's this old dude doing with a stereo system like that!?!?!? 😏🫨)

Still...he challenged once more, turning it up again.

I popped out Johnny Cash. He looked over with a satisfied sneer...."Showed him!!!!"

I proceeded to pop in one of my favorite c/d's. 😍 It was a collection of Scottish/Irish bagpipe/fife & drum battle tunes.

When I cranked it to the max, the guy looked over at me with a look of absolute TERROR!!!
He held up his two index fingers. Forming a cross with them, as if to ward off evil 😈 .

His stereo went silent and he tore out like the proverbial bat out of hell!

I quietly said to myself, "I win." 😇🫡

One of the few Rock groups I still have a couple of tracks of on my usb stick music for my car. Not many make the cut with me these days. Far cry from my youth that's for sure.
Highway Star and Smoke on the Water. Who didn't try smoke on the water when they first picked up a guitar!? I did 😄
Favorite though is Highway Star.

You'd suddenly hear Deep Purple being played full bore and know the parents had gone out. You could hear it from blocks away as loud as a concert! I don't think many people, if any, back then had anything that could rival their stereo system.
It was beast! First track they'd put on was Smoke on the Water. That tracks into was their intro that the music had started 😄
There was never any trouble and it never went into late hours of the night, just very loud music for our suburbs hearing pleasure. 😂

There was never any trouble and it never went into late hours of the night, just very loud music for our suburbs hearing pleasure. 😂

Jr. Highschool one classmate who lived next to the schools older brother parked a car near the property line for us.
At lunch time a trio of us or more at times would sprint from the school to behind the car after checking for prying eyes. Then check again before sprinting from car to house.

Pool table for a couple games before running back to the car /school., Stereo with varied records. Cigarettes for lunch.
Who knows if anyone saw us. Or if anyone cared! Simpler times.
