Of course they are. If we’d all just quit driving and heating our houses and using electricity, everything would be great and we’d all have springtime all year round. Right?

It kills me when they say go electric-please turn down your heat/air as the grind is experiencing record high demand. You may experience brown outs if it goes any higher. Please buy an EV and put in a heat pump-dirty ICE, dirty Dino. Yes w're experiencing a rolling black out because you wanted heat/cooling, just a kind reminder this has happened because you're just bad, greedy, and privileged.

Now in reality the world is getting so fragile.

As of January 29, 2026, there have been at least
11 to 12 days of school bus cancellations in the Kingston, Ontario area.

The rural has had 3 days of cancellations compared to the city. (Note the city of Kingston wants to be a 15 minute city)

Yes and then we can stop destroying the environment mining coal and drilling for oil by going renewable using everything electric. Using, um, rare earths which are, mined!

We here in the bush get "turn everything off for 2 hrs and get $10 credit on your bill" messages during these mad crazy heatwaves.
So here we are in 40 to 47 c heat, 104 - 116f, whilst the other parts of the state where most people live, near the coastal areas, are having 24 - 33c, 74 - 91f.
Turn our air con and fans off in that heat is insanity! Lets see, a heatwave is starting and we see Govt adds on TV warning people to "stay cool, keep hydrated, if you have no cooling consider visiting a shopping mall during the peak heat, don't forget your pets and bring them inside with you to stay cool, remember heat stroke can kill". So the power company asks us to turn the power to everything off whilst the Govt says to use your fans and air cons to stay cool and safe in the heat!
Meanwhile the Melbournians and Geelongites get to join in the fun of getting money shaved off of their bills, whilst turning anything off up here just isn't an option and is in fact the direct opposite to how our Govt tells us to stay well in extreme heat!

The reality is this so called renewable energy grid we have after the closing of most of our coal powered generators cannot cope with peak demand during heatwave events. We actually have our power cut now n then for several hrs as the grid gets overloaded. Its called "power sharing". It can't cope so they offer money to shut down your power.
Its a total failure as it is and we haven't shut the entire coal powered generators down yet.
