Finished up a job yesterday so I could try my luck today. There's still a ton of snow in the woods and was very hard going. I basically only had a couple sites that I though may be huntable. I went to the last site that I hunted in the beginning of January. No written history about this place but obviously there was something there. I could only hunt a small portion of the site as 80% is buried in snow. It started slow and I really expected nothing but eventually I got a nice mid 80s hit at 7" and pulled a large copper. Then I got a similar signal about 18" away and pulled two more large coppers. Then I got a fairly low number and dug a Tombac button. Anybody that doesn't dig those lower numbers is missing out. I love these designed tombacs.
I was absolutely dying by the end of this hunt. Walking through the deep snow is rough. My iPhone has an app on it that tells how far you walk and I trekked over 6 miles. I am beat and need to get into detecting condition.
So two of the coppers were Draped Busts. A 1798 which is cool because it's a date I haven't found before. The other I believe is 1802 or 1803. I've got them in mineral oil and have little faith in them but we shall see. I was happy just to get a date. Felt so damn good to get back out there and so happy that I actually found a few keepers. Good luck out there everybody.

Lol. Ya know I'm not so sure that super expensive machine is capable of finding OLD silvers. The true colonial hunters know the secret to finding the OLD silvers. They call them T2s and F75s lol. Vino was just giving me a hard time about my cheap "toy" (T2 SE). Then I asked what the oldest coin is that he found with those million dollar machines? Let's just say my toy got back to 1652 and 1664. You fellas let me know when you get into that neighborhood :laughing7: I spend mercs and barbers at the grocery store. No use for those "new" coins. Btw I already pulled the deep silver from this spot, 1772 half real and 1802 real. Go tuck in your CTX bud. My T2 is training in the basement. Rocky style lol

I like you better when you're snow bound in your cave. You find a few coppers on your first hunt of the season and you get all cocky again.

And...don't forget I stumbled over a 1685 1/2 farthing.

Annnnnd....I'm up to 58 silvers this year. I don't feel like posting a thread on today's finds so I'm just going to dump a pic on your thread!

You getting out this weekend bud? I want to see you keep killing it like you did today.

No the weathers going to suck for about 8 days. Not good man. Might be next weekend before I'm out again. Hey did you find that 1685 with the T2 or CTX? I think that's a few years older than George's oldest lol. It's damn hard to find 1600s coins and we've all done it so nothing but respect brother. You are rolling for sure. Think we can join the 1500s club someday? Now that would be something....but i think Bill already dug em all lol

Awesome finds! The next month is going to be amazing for us here in New England. The snow is slowly melting and perpetually saturating the ground. I guarantee that a couple GW buttons and at least one tree shilling will be posted here in the next couple of weeks. Hunt until you drop, guys! You will be rewarded!

Well done Abe!!! It's been a long winter, but glad to see you're into the colonial stuff already. That a great sign!!

Nice finds Abe, hope you are just scratching the surface. Looking forward to more finds in the near future.

Over here the 1500's club is a really tough one. 1600's is bloody difficult enough. I think it's possible on this side of the pond but very very few have done it. The James 2nd was found with a T2, but I will have you know it's was like hitting a barn door with a shotgun ten feet away. There wasn't any missing it. Lol

So the weather is going to suck the next few days?! Well, Vino and I both hunted in the rain yesterday. I hear a lot of excuses to not dig so get your a#$ out there and hunt. I need to see more coppers (or better) from you this weekend because I can't go hunting for the holiday. I'm just going to stay home, get drunk, and talk about coins until everyone wants me out of the house!

Cheers bud

Lol. When I say the weathers gonna suck I'm talking in the mid 30s with freezing rain and sleet. We've still got a hell of s lot of snow and I'm so sore from dragging myself through snow drifts that I haven't moved from the couch at all....and don't plan to either. Don't talk about Vino hunting in the rain. That guy is the biggest baby on earth. I have no issue hunting in the rain.
So let's get one thing straight here. The T2 gets you into the 1600s club then you turn your back on it for a shiny new expensive machine to find 1900s and the occasional 1800s coin? I'm not questioning your intelligence here Scrap(you're too big for that lol) but cmon now. I know when you spend that much money for something you really want to like it but if you'd like to start finding old stuff like you used to....you have that option 8-)

Nice digs Abe, Congrats on a good day of digging

Good to see you out.

Nice re-entry! Hope this season is big for you!

Good to see you out.

That sucks bro. It's not great here either. There's 2 feet in the woods in spots. But I managed to find a few clear areas. Frozen of course but it was nice to turn on the machine

Hi Abe .......... looks good , glad you can get thru the ice ,

what a winter :censored:

Dawg

Great finds! congrats! A for effort in hunting in the snow.
Hang in there Abe the thaw is slowly headed your way.

Three LC'S that would make my day nice job Abe..

Nice coppers Abe! 75% of the place I went yesterday was covered in snow so it made it pretty hard. I can't wait for it all to melt so the season can get in full swing. Some of those look like they could clean up great.

Uh oh, the bear is awake and has exited the den! Great mid-thaw hunt Abe. I expect to see 17th century silver from your next outing.

He's also very hungry and grumpy....and he has a 1688 map that he recently found lol. I hope you're right about the 1600s silver bro

Pulled the LC's out of the mu real oil and all 3 are Draped Busts. Can just barely make out the bust on one but my first time finding a 3 DB spill.
Happy Easter guys
