Finished up a job yesterday so I could try my luck today. There's still a ton of snow in the woods and was very hard going. I basically only had a couple sites that I though may be huntable. I went to the last site that I hunted in the beginning of January. No written history about this place but obviously there was something there. I could only hunt a small portion of the site as 80% is buried in snow. It started slow and I really expected nothing but eventually I got a nice mid 80s hit at 7" and pulled a large copper. Then I got a similar signal about 18" away and pulled two more large coppers. Then I got a fairly low number and dug a Tombac button. Anybody that doesn't dig those lower numbers is missing out. I love these designed tombacs.
I was absolutely dying by the end of this hunt. Walking through the deep snow is rough. My iPhone has an app on it that tells how far you walk and I trekked over 6 miles. I am beat and need to get into detecting condition.
So two of the coppers were Draped Busts. A 1798 which is cool because it's a date I haven't found before. The other I believe is 1802 or 1803. I've got them in mineral oil and have little faith in them but we shall see. I was happy just to get a date. Felt so damn good to get back out there and so happy that I actually found a few keepers. Good luck out there everybody.

Some great finds for this time of year! I went and checked a cellar hole yesterday and the snow was knee deep in the woods and about 6" deep around the hole. Wont be long...couple more weeks i'm thinking. I got permission to a property where an early 1700's settlement was and the wait for spring is killing me. Hope my new AT Pro squeaks out a couple good finds for me.

Nicely done, Abe, as usual. The first of many good finds for you this year, I'm sure. I'm thinking maybe an Oak Tree this year- maybe a Willow? I haven't been able to get out myself with the exception of the beach, but another week of 40+ temps should do the trick on the snow in the woods. I will stay tuned to your posts- best of luck. Geoff

Yup were almost there buddy. It was rough hunting for sure. You'll be out there killing it in no time. Oh what I wouldn't do for a willow tree 8-)

You've been right before about these things

Haven't been on here in a few days so it appears I am a bit belated in telling you what a dog you really are. ha ha. Congrats my friend. Some more killer finds from the far north. HH.

And...don't forget I stumbled over a 1685 1/2 farthing.

Annnnnd....I'm up to 58 silvers this year. I don't feel like posting a thread on today's finds so I'm just going to dump a pic on your thread

Man you guys are awful:laughing7:

Awesome hunt:occasion14: it looks the be a great spot! I checked out the woods around me the other day. The snow was 6-8 inches and 4 around the cellar, but did that suck to walk through:sad10: I commend you for your willpower :notworthy:

Nice Job Ahab, Always nice to pull early American coins.

Nice start to the year Abe, with snow sill on the ground and all you did well. You're going to have a great season out there this year I'm sure, if this is any indication.

Congrats Abe. Very nice start brother!

Glad to see you were finally able to get out Abe, even if conditions weren't optimal you still made some good finds!

This is a great start to your year Abe! :occasion14:
If you found all of this in just 20% of the detectable area, I can't wait to see what you find in the remaining 80%!

Looks like your going to have another amazing year my friend!
Dave
