Okay fellas, believe it or not, I recently dug up an 1870 "CC" Seated Liberty Half Dollar. When i found it, i only knew it was a Seated Liberty Half as i didn't want to clean it in the field. Anyway, after doing the "happy dance" for a awhile I headed home to rinse it off and do some research. I knew the seated liberty halves could fetch a few hundred dollars in good shape, so i really was happy as a pig in poop with that. Then while doing some reading i came across the statement "of particular interest to collectors is the rare 1870 Carson City Seated Half.....". Now my hearts beating a tad faster, because after cleaning the mud off it IS an 1870...but what the hell is the Carson City mean?? So after some more googling I find that Carson City was a mint and coins minted there will have a small "CC" on the reverse. Holy !!!!...no friggin way...there it is, right under the eagle's talons..."CC". So now, with my heart really beating and a !!!! eatin' grin on my face, i'm back on Google searching for the value of this coin. OH MY GOD! Never in a million years did i think i could find a single coin worth what this one is. I mean previous to this, i was hoping to find a gold ring worth a couple hundred bucks. I know most of you are going to believe this coin is a fake, or I'm a liar..but rest assured i am not a liar and I've already had an authorized PCGS agent look at it and confirm that he thought it was genuine. Enough so that he offered me 5 grand! Besides, the coin has been sent off to Heritage Auctions so I'll have the proof and the check soon.

yeap, I guess I should trust less & check more, sad really, I take most posters on their word:tongue3:

Glad we didn't banner it now.............

I am sure good old Smoking Joe will clear this right up. LOL. Imagine not trusting someone on the computer. What I mean is it's got to be a true story it's on the web..

I'm not sure what you mean but I just checked the posters reverse photos & 1 & 3 don't match the patina marks, strange:icon_scratch:

<STILL NO REPLY ON OWNERS SHARE>

I suspect it is most likely because they were taken with 2 different cameras, picture 3 looks like a better camera took the picture, they were taken at different times since the background is different, and or it could be a lighting issue..... Pictures 1 and 3 are certainly the same coin, the patterns are the same.....

OK, might have been cleaned a bit/lighting. They look very different.

No, i'm not very knowledgable about coins. Or at least i wasn't before i found the "CC". But since then, i've bought a few coin books and mags to educate myself. The info i stated about your coin was taken directly from Coin Prices magazine.

"just in the future be honest about your knowledge of collectible coins"....that's kind of a rude statement don't ya think?
I must have missed that the first time i read your post.

I get what you meant, by our coin definitions, it wasn't rare.

I still have no reply on the owners share though:icon_scratch:

It reall isn't anything you should be concerned with.

I would like to see the reverse. I have seen "SmokinJoe" as a brand new member in a couple other forums with the same photo (Google search it) but no reverse photos. Help me out Joe.

There is a reverse photo attached to the original post. Yes, the same coin on the other sites would be me as well. Like i've already stated, i was excited to share this find with those that share this hobby/passion.

Not even close is it. I guess I should look more close and less yapping. Hmmmmm

@Crusader: I'm having trouble finding that post you made....did you delete it? or maybe the moderator because your unjustly calling me a liar?
Look again pal, those coins match. They look different because two were taken with my cell phone under crappy lighting and the other was taken with my Canon DSLR with studio lighting.
@ticm: same reply to you

You have alot of nerve to insinuate i'm making this up. You can bid on the coin personally when i get the info back from Heritage. But in the meantime would it make you happy if i post the emails that i have had with Heritage?

Amazing Find !! CONGRATULATIONS !!

They you for taking the time to take a good look at the coins and making an educated guess as to why they look a little different. The previous fellas should have done the same. Or at least bought some bifocals before they started making accusations that i'm lying or faking something.

After reading all the posts about your coin I can clearly see why people keep their finds a secret. Congrats on a great find! It does seem to stoke a little jealously from others which is understandable. Don't let it bother you,

Joe, no doubt they are the same coin, the patterns match, a better camera and better lighting gives you a better picture.

To call someone a liar is against TN rules and is considered a verbal atack, I have already warned in a different thread about doing that and the consequences of continuing to do it......

Even though the coin can't be bannered, there is no question in my mind that it is authentic....Unless someone has 100% proof beyond all shadow of a doubt it is a fake and are prepared to submit proof to the moderators I highly recommend they do not call you a liar....

My friends and I are having a blast with the acronym "ticm". We've come up with some hilarious meanings for it. Thanks for the chuckles.

No, further South....closer to Deruyter is the best I'll disclose. I went back to the same area today for a few hours but got nothing. I found a NYS dog liscence tag from 1914...I think, the 3rd digit is hard to say it was definetly a "1".
