It seems like all we're doing is watering and caterpillar smashing!

I can live with the average years of a caterpillar hatching where one day it's oh look and the leaves of the plant look like the wing of a Dragonfly.
But this is just down right crazy here now-the Mrs wore out one fly swatter already just hitting/swatting the dam things.

It's the talk of the county right now it seems, the area has been hit hard. When one walks through the forest the raining down of bits of leaves-frass-caterpillars is "Better be wearing a hat".

Looking over the landscape 60-80 ft trees are stripped bare almost just a smitten of green left on them.
The oaks, birch, fir, spruce trees are the first to go it seems.
The maples are doing better than most other trees, but time will tell.
The Honey locust tree has not hardly been toughed which seems strange as they are just devouring everything else.
Stood by the oak in the yard yesterday and killed 100+ in a few minutes going up and down on the trunk.
They still have a bit to go by what we read-then comes the moths and mating ritual cycle and egg laying.

Speaking with folks on the Island on the St Lawrence-zip-nadda-not a caterpillar to be seen........

Everything from lumber to gas to food to house costs, etc...has been skyrocketing
That's what happens when .gov starts printing money and giving it away. It's called inflation.

Also everything gets to the store shelves on diesel powered trucks, and if the cost of fuel goes up so does the price of everything else. So you can thank Hidin Biden for cancelling all drilling and the Keystone pipeline.

Mornin all.

Raining poop and cut up leaves / confetti here too. Traceling yesterday there were areas the road is covered in caterpillars. Hooray for nice clean motorbikes getting brought out. Yecch.
Told the neighbor last evening that's what the raining sound was. He thought it was moisture off the trees...It's been dry here.

More sunlight reaching through the canopy will likely affect what's growing on the forest floor. Time will tell.

We had defoliation a couple three years ago too. Might have been oak-worms or gypsy moths. Already forgot which.
