Tallying up our berry haul so far this season. About 45 lbs or red currants, 16 lbs of black currants, 20 lbs of black raspberries both wild and domestic, 15 or so lbs of Saskatoon/June berries.

The elderberries are still to come later in the season. The missus just got the ok to go ahead with her sale at a retirement home this coming August she sells some of her surplus preserves there for a bit of pocket money.

Morning ARC and Bill

[bill from lachine]

Jim,

How's the healing coming along on the arm?

[bill from lachine]

If anyone wants to try their hand at making some home made ricotta cheese.

[pepperj]

Jim,

How's the healing coming along on the arm?

Oh it's not bad, until I rest it on the edge of the desk-then it reminds me that it's there.
Though I have to say the throat/stomach/back muscles are still tender a tad.
But it's a good reminder to be careful, while looking for drainage outlets along the creek that run off the field I was a bit more aware of the bank.

Trees and drain tiles, is basically an intravenous hook up for the root system. The one tile we excavated 20+ ft back into the field to get the root sock out of the tile.
I took a photo of the roots and a drain section that we pulled out, to show the Mrs.
No wonder it wasn't working too well, and the fact we filled in the cut last year.
Problem solved trees gone, Big O installed, sugar bush lane graded, 2 large rock piles spread all out for the rock edging/garden/path/step projects this summer.

[Rookster]

Good morning

You're well ahead in the berry picking count Bill-well done-yum-yum.

Do you pick any Aronia berries also known as chokeberries (because of their sharp, mouth-drying effect?
Like Elderberries they have to be cooked down to diminish that effect and to concentrate the flavour.
It seems that the berry has the highest polyphenol content of 143 plants. (Now what that means is a tad too much information this early)

Morning Rook

[bill from lachine]

Jim,

We do have a few plants in one of our parks which might be aronia berries, however, there are also look alikes that are poisonous so I passed on them last year.

[bill from lachine]

Jim,

Here's a video giving some info on the aronia berries.

They certainly have the effect.

Now Bill you've been married good amount of years and are old school in some ways- "Ladies first" when taste sampling the unknowns.

I think there's a foraging event going on this weekend near us, might take time to do a walk around.

What time zone is treasurenet in?
It is 2 hours ahead of me....
