It's amazing to me that the wild turkeys vanish during turkey season. We haven't had the turkeys come visit all month. Same thing happened last year. They'll be back once the season ends. And we don't even hunt them. How do they know?

I once read something on animals about learnt collective memory or something along those lines and it had something to do with hunting or avoidance, becomes instinctive. I bet its that.

Cheers. At golds price these days it wouldn't take much. Im just happy to be out there again after not going for so long after getting rid of my bigger serious gear due to my back. Its really nice to be able to do what I love again.

Hard frost and hunting grasshoppers and bugs lets up.
Acorns can be a draw awhile. Into winter even if the snow doesn't get a crust of ice on it.

Like most game animals it is suspected turkeys can read regulations /season dates.
Plus the alarm/red flag of hunters making a racket tying to sneak around. While making horrendously poor imitations of turkey calls at inappropriate times when not thrashing around making noise in other manners..
