Good morning, I lost a parakeet to a snake yesterday. I guess he managed to squeeze through the mesh (1/2"). After he ate one of my hens then he curled up in a nesting box as he was to fat to get back through the wire mesh. This is the same guy I've been seeing around here for awhile so I figured he'll just keep coming back for a bird snack now that he figured out how to sneak in. I took him out to some overgrown vacant lots far away & turned him loose. I was upset but it's nature.

Well returned home at midnight and with a script. for antibiotics for 5 days. Then a Friday meet up with the plastic surgeon at his clinic at the hospital. I guess it will be figured out soon enough I hope.
Titan was overjoyed to see my return.

No prospecting for me today. The wife wants to go to Walmart. For most people that means a ten-minute car ride. For us, it is an hour and a half... one way!

But I did get out yesterday and checked a non-promising/promising spot. On the inland side there was a stream on my way up to a vista that I should have stopped at and dipped my sluice pan into but endeavored instead to take to the top of the hill. I did not see much quartz in the stream or veining on the hill, but there is plenty of galena with an old commercial lead mine nearby so it may be worth revisiting that stream.

After heading off the hill I started towards the coast to have lunch, I found a stream deadheading into the ocean. I dipped my pan for a while but did not see anything. I was just about to head for home when a distant rock with quartz veining caught my attention. I investigated and found some spots of smoky quartz, but coastal quartz is useless. The surf pounds on it and makes it very fractured so it can't be faceted into gems. But from the picture you can see how voggy it is, how thin these seams of quartz are, and how they just disappear in dip and strike in this area. It makes it impossible to chase them with a compass to find better spots, but does tell me maybe gold is nearby. It is still nice to have the ocean clean the rock to find quartz veins though. Inland, it is just so wet that moss covers everything.

Not all was lost though. It was a nice spot to have lunch, that always tasting a bit better when salt is added (salt water).

I hope to head inland tomorrow and see what is in there them hills!

I headed inland as I promised and saw some encouraging signs. It ended up being a ten-mile hike, first going inland to the apex of the preserve, then looping back along the coast. It was wet with light rain in the best of times and downpours in others. Heavy winds were blowing in, and the surf was pounding against the rocks.

Inland there was a lot of pegmatites and disseminated quartz. Thin, thin pockets of it which is always a great sign. Oh, how the best stuff always wears an ugly overcoat. On the gravel beaches there was a lot of agates and jasper. Nothing of beauty on the outside, but like a good Christmas gift, always better to open it up and see. I have yet to do that as I need to get a new diamond blade for my saw first.

My pack was heavy with rock samples, not to mention very steep trails in and out of the coves. I think it would have even been too much for my ole donkey, though RIP my old friend. So with another fifty-second trip around the sun under my belt last Friday, my knees were aching and I was feeling the 10 mile push to the far corner of the preserve where LIDAR showed the most promise. It proved to never lie, but a tough, long hike in and out just to sea. Yes, pun intended (sea/see)

I did make it down to some treacherous coves where you can see agates and jasper awaited. It does not look bad, but it is an 80–200-foot straight drop to the ocean. But I suppose with a Navy Yard nearby, the boys in blue could fish me out of the surf. I would be dead of course, but they would still fish me out still!

Auction pick up today.
This lil goober was all sad cause no one wanted to bid on it and the 14 oz. claw hammer it was with.
But I felt sorry for it. Cheaply. But attentively.

Plastic surgeons are specially is hands, faces, breasts, butts, reconstruction of body parts. Had some 22 surgeries by them and I still haven't got a piece of plastic yet.

Seriously this truck was a battle tank.

But it was so much fun flipping that puppy over on its side.
